Water

Creation Reference: Water on dry ground

Visible Verse: Isaiah 44:3-4

For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants. They will spring up like grass in a meadow, like poplar trees by flowing streams.

Creation Reference: Artesian spring

Visible Verse: John 4:13-14

Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

Science: Artesian aquifers are springs that well up out of the ground from far below the earth's surface. They flow year after year with a seemingly endless supply of water. In truth, they are being recharged from water seeping through areas water scientists, or hydrologists, call recharge zones. The recharge zones are typically freshwater wetlands, but can also be areas composed of sand and gravel. The water is usually clear, cold and sweet, because of the distance it has traveled to reach the aquifer, sometimes hundreds of feet below the earth's surface. The average length of time a water molecule spends in an aquifer is 300 years! Next time you stop by an artesian aquifer to grab a drink, think about that water falling as rain when your great-great grandpa was a boy!

Application: Jesus said, for those that will drink it, the living water He gives will become a spring of water welling up to eternal life. The drinking Jesus refers to is that moment we decide to accept Him as our Lord and Savior and the living water is the Holy Spirit, who enters our hearts the moment we believe. The resulting spring of water is unlike the springs we draw our water from to temporarily quench our physical thirst. No, Jesus' spring never needs recharging, His living water forever quenches our thirst and as we grow in our relationship with Him, it produces an increasing measure of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22). Now that's a cup of water worth sharing! May you be reminded of the abundant life in Christ with every glass of water you drink!.

Creation Reference: Stream

Visible Verse: John 7:37-38

On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”

Creation Reference: Freshwater spring

Visible Verse: James 3:9-12

With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.

Creation Reference: Mist

Visible Verse: James 4:13-15

Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”

Creation Reference: Dried spring or mist

Visible Verse: 2Peter 2:17-18

These people are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them. For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of the flesh, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error.
