Water

Creation Reference:

Visible Verse: Jer 6:23

They are armed with bow and spear; they are cruel and show no mercy. They sound like the roaring sea as they ride on their horses; they come like men in battle formation to attack you, Daughter Zion.”

Creation Reference: Deep water

Visible Verse: 2Samuel 22:17-20

“He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters. He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me. They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the Lord was my support. He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.

Creation Reference: Flood

Visible Verse: 2Samuel 5:20

So David went to Baal Perazim, and there he defeated them. He said, “As waters break out, the Lord has broken out against my enemies before me.” So that place was called Baal Perazim.

Creation Reference: Foam

Visible Verse: Job 24:16-18

In the dark, thieves break into houses, but by day they shut themselves in; they want nothing to do with the light. For all of them, midnight is their morning; they make friends with the terrors of darkness. “Yet they are foam on the surface of the water; their portion of the land is cursed, so that no one goes to the vineyards.

Creation Reference: Snow

Visible Verse: Psalm 51:7

Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.

Science: Snow is formed when water vapor condenses around small particles of dust, pollen, or salts at temperatures below freezing. As water molecules are added to the growing ice crystal, a one-of-a-kind snow flake emerges. This snow flake absorbs most of the visible light, causing it to appear white to our eyes, despite the dirt it contains!

Application: We are more like snowflakes than most people realize. In Scripture the color white is frequently used to symbolize righteousness, such as in our Psalm 51:7 Visible VerseTM. To the casual observer, most of us look good, even righteous, but looks can be deceiving! We may appear white as snow, but the dirt of our sinful nature is just below the surface. When we place our faith in Jesus Christ, all our sins are forgiven and we are washed whiter than snow! Do you think the Psalmist knew why he wrote WHITER than snow? I bet not. May you be reminded that your sins have been washed away by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ with every snow flake you see!

Creation Reference: Springs

Visible Verse: Proverbs 4:23

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

Creation Reference: Spring/fountain

Visible Verse: Proverbs 16:22

Prudence is a fountain of life to the prudent, but folly brings punishment to fools.

Creation Reference: Lake or stream

Visible Verse: Proverbs 18:4

The words of the mouth are deep waters, but the fountain of wisdom is a rushing stream.

Creation Reference: Still or calm waters

Visible Verse: Proverbs 27:19

As water reflects the face, so one’s life reflects the heart.

Science: As light and water meet, the ray of light is bent, or reflected. This characteristic of water to reflect light is behind some incredible scenic views, such as the reflections seen in Trail Lake, Alaska. This lake is protected by mountains all around, allowing its still waters to reflect the incredible scenery above its surface. The reflections of Trail Lake are gorgeous!

Application: So it is with our heart. Just as water reflects light, our heart reflects our true nature. Our heart’s reflection is seen in our words, actions, and deeds. Their source is our heart and when Jesus Christ is allowed to reign in our heart, a gorgeous reflection results. To obtain this kind of reflection, we need to, "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life." (Psalm 4:23).

Creation Reference: Snow

Visible Verse: Proverbs 25:13

Like a snow-cooled drink at harvest time
